Slide 2: Getting Started
This tutorial is geared towards beginners. Watch the video all the way through, to understand the process and view the notes. Then, start over, pausing at each slide, to give yourself time to complete each step.

Slide 5: One Account is ALL You Need
You can create one account and use it for all of Google’s tools, such as: Gmail, Calendar, Blogs, Google Play, YouTube, AdSense, AdWords, Analytics, Search Console, Tag Manager, etc. If appropriate, you can set up separate Google accounts for personal use and for business use.

Slide 6: Your Google Account
If you do not have a Google account, watch our tutorial on “How to Sign Up for a Google Account” first. Then, continue with this tutorial.

Slide 7: Step One
Open your web browser and go to: analytics.google.com
The full URL (web address) is much longer, but all you need to do is type analytics.google.com and press enter / return / go.

If you are not logged into your Google account, the browser will transfer you to accounts.google.com. Login to continue. If you see “Google Analytics Home” near the top of the browser, you are in the right place.

Look down the left-hand column of the browser window for a gear icon next to the word “ADMIN” and click it. If your browser window is small, you might only see the gear icon.

Look for the column named “PROPERTY” and click the drop-down menu directly below.

Click the “Create new property” link.

This option should already be set to “Website.”

[check mark] Website name for internal use only
Enter the URL (web address) or the title of the website. Whatever works best for you.

[check mark] Website URL (full website address)
If your website is secure, select the https:// option from the drop-down list, otherwise use http://.

[check mark] Industry Category for internal use only
If your website does not fit in any category listed, then select the “Other” option at the bottom.

[check mark] Reporting Time Zone
Select which country and time zone you want Google to use for the Analytics reports.

[check mark] Get Tracking ID
Click the “Get Tracking ID” button to add this property to Google Analytics and to view it’s tracking code.

The tracking code needs to be installed into the source code of your website.

Plugins WordPress, Wix, etc. have plugins for Google Analytics. Each company sets this up differently and there are too many to list here. For assistance, contact your hosting company and/or web developer.

A few hours after the tracking code has been installed, login back into your Google Analytics account and to make sure that traffic is showing up in the reports.
